ABOUT SAVE LALIBELA TODAY

My name is Yehenew Ayalew, and I was born in the historic region of Lasta, Lalibela, Ethiopia. Currently residing in Canada, I am the founder of Save Lalibela Today, a platform with a profound mission to preserve and promote the cultural and spiritual legacy encapsulated in the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela. Lalibela, often referred to as the "New Jerusalem," boasts a rich history dating back to the 13th century when it was commissioned by King Lalibela as a 'New Jerusalem.' These ancient churches, hewn from solid rock, stand as a testament to the extraordinary architectural and religious significance of Lalibela.

My mission through Save Lalibela Today is deeply rooted in a sense of responsibility and connection to my heritage. Lalibela, despite its historical importance, faces various challenges that threaten its preservation. It is my fervent mission to protect Lalibela and elevate its status on the global stage. Inspired by the governance model of the Vatican City, I advocate for Lalibela to be recognized as a holy site with its own governance, similar to the unique status accorded to the Vatican. This recognition would not only underscore the spiritual significance of Lalibela but also provide a framework for its sustainable preservation.

Save Lalibela Today serves as a digital sanctuary, aiming to transport visitors into the heart of Lalibela's cultural and religious wonders. Through immersive digital experiences, the website seeks to educate and inspire a global audience about the intricate craftsmanship and spiritual resonance of the Rock-Hewn Churches. More than just a virtual tour, Save Lalibela Today is a call to action, urging individuals and communities worldwide to join the advocacy for Lalibela's recognition as a holy site.

In the face of modern challenges and potential threats to Lalibela's heritage, Save Lalibela Today stands as a beacon of awareness and unity. By leveraging the power of digital media, the platform facilitates a global conversation about the importance of Lalibela and its rightful place among the world's most revered cultural and religious sites. The mission is not only to protect Lalibela but also to encourage the world to advocate collectively for its status as a holy site with the governance necessary for its preservation and continued cultural significance.

Save Lalibela Today closely aligns with UNESCO's commitment to safeguard and honor cultural heritage. By strategically advocating, the website seeks international backing for Lalibela's inclusion in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites at risk. Attaining this acknowledgment stands as a pivotal measure in acquiring essential resources and attention to safeguard Lalibela's lasting legacy. In this capacity, Save Lalibela Today transforms into a digital ambassador, effectively conveying the urgency and significance of Lalibela's cause to a worldwide audience.

Save Lalibela Today emerges as a digital haven dedicated to the preservation and global recognition of Lalibela's Rock-Hewn Churches. Lalibela's history, cultural significance, and the call for advocacy are woven into the fabric of this mission. As the founder, I aspire to see Lalibela recognized as a holy site with its own governance, akin to the Vatican City, and Save Lalibela Today serves as a catalyst for this transformative endeavor. Together with a global community of advocates, we can ensure the protection and celebration of Lalibela's sacred legacy for generations to come.
